Prez SaysReaders of Tidings, will recall that in my last installment, I was just preparing to journey to the Radisson Hotel at SeaTac for the March 2, 2001 Western Washington ARMA chapters' Spring Seminar. I am pleased to let you know that I did indeed attend the seminar and that it proved to be a worthwhile and productive event. Overall attendance was good for the event, and the Mt. Vernon ARMA chapter was represented by Gail Kleer from WWU's Records Management department, along with Troy George and Rosslyn James from the Lummi Records and Archives program, as well as yours truly. In fact, as things now stand, our chapter will receive just over $300 as a profit sharing participant. Two all day seminars appeared to be well attended. Belinda Bartels' and Micky Hogue's session on "Records Management 101" was a useful course, according to the people with whom I spoke. In a nearby conference room, Jan Duffy's "Knowledge Management" was also crowded. I attended Ms. Duffy's session and found out quite a bit about KM. For example, Ms. Duffy spent quite a bit of time discussing the necessity of records managers working with I.S. departments and how both groups could benefit from working closely together. Additionally, the vendors' booths also proved to be popular with conference attendees. Lunch offered a pleasant break in the seminars and a chance to meet and mingle with other Western Washington ARMA chapter members. Following conclusion of the seminars there was also a final panel with KM/ERIM Enabling Technologies. The Radisson Hotel proved to be a good choice for the event and it seemed that all in attendance had a stimulating day. My morning duties at the Registration Table with Sue Lord allowed me to meet many of those attending the conference first hand. In retrospect, I can heartily recommend that our chapter continue to participate in events of this nature. And if you didn't make it to this seminar perhaps you will be tempted to attend future ones. - David Keller |
